چکیده
This paper describes a new algorithm for morphological analysis of Arabic words, which has been tested on a corpus of 242 abstracts from the Saudi Arabian National Computer Conference. It runs an order of magnitude faster than other algorithms in the literature.s from the Saudi Arabian National Computer Conference. Developing a New System for Arabic Morphological Analysis and Generation
Arabic morphology poses special challenges to computational natural language processing systems. Its rich morphology and the highly complex word formation process of roots and patterns make computational approaches to Arabic very challenging. In this paper we present an approach for morphological analysis and generation of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Our approach is based on Arabic morphologi...
متن کاملJabalín: A Comprehensive Computational Model of Modern Standard Arabic Verbal Morphology Based on Traditional Arabic Prosody
The computational handling of Modern Standard Arabic is a challenge in the field of natural language processing due to its highly rich morphology. However, several authors have pointed out that the Arabic morphological system is in fact extremely regular. The existing Arabic morphological analyzers have exploited this regularity to variable extent, yet we believe there is still some scope for i...
متن کاملMulti-Tiered Nonlinear Morphology Using Multi-Tape Finite Automata: A Case Study on Syriac and Arabic
This paper presents a computational model for nonlinear morphology with illustrations from Syriac and Arabic. The model is a multitiered one in that it allows for multiple lexical representations corresponding to the multiple tiers of autosegmental phonology. The model consists of three main components: (i) a lexicon, which is made of sublexica, with each sublexicon representing lexical materia...
متن کاملIssues in the generation of Arabic
The exceptional degree of ambiguity in the writing system, the rich morphology, the unique word formation process of roots and patterns, and its syntax all contribute to making computational approaches to Arabic very challenging. The non-concatenative morphology of Arabic has spurred the development of sophisticated formalisms and computational engines, as well as produced brute force approache...
متن کاملBook Reviews: Arabic Computational Morphology: Knowledge-Based and Empirical Methods by Abdelhadi Soudi, Antal van den Bosch, and Neumann, Günter (editors)
The past few decades have witnessed an increased interest in Arabic natural language processing, and in particular computational morphology. In the early 1990s one had to contend with a number of papers that proposed methodologies to handle the various complexities of Arabic morphology, most of which had little implementation associated with them, with the sole notable exception of the works of...
متن کاملIntroduction to Arabic Natural Language Processing
This book provides system developers and researchers in natural language processing and computational linguistics with the necessary background information for working with the Arabic language. The goal is to introduce Arabic linguistic phenomena and review the state-of-the-art in Arabic processing. The book discusses Arabic script, phonology, orthography, morphology, syntax and semantics, with...
